Four Modes, Infinite Possibilities

ReplyType isn't a one-size-fits-all writing tool. Different projects demand different workflows, which is why we built four distinct writing modes. Each mode offers a unique balance of AI involvement and human control.

Let's break down when and why to use each one.

Auto Mode

What It Does

Auto Mode generates a complete, structured document from a brief. You describe what you want, configure parameters like length and tone, and the AI produces a full draft.

Best For

  • Blog posts and articles where you have a clear topic
  • First drafts that you plan to heavily edit
  • Content marketing at scale
  • Overcoming the blank page

How to Use It

  1. Click "New Mode" and select Auto
  2. Enter your writing brief (be specific!)
  3. Choose your target length, style, and tone
  4. Optionally import content from a URL for reference
  5. Click generate and watch the magic happen

Pro Tips

  • The more detailed your brief, the better the output
  • Use the URL import feature to feed reference material
  • Generated content respects your brand voice settings
  • Each section can be individually rephrased or regenerated

Chat Mode

What It Does

Chat Mode creates a conversational interface between you and the AI. You discuss your writing, brainstorm ideas, and collaboratively build your content through dialogue.

Best For

  • Brainstorming and ideation
  • Complex topics requiring back-and-forth refinement
  • Writers who prefer a collaborative process
  • Exploring different angles on a subject

How to Use It

  1. Start a new Chat Mode session
  2. Describe what you're working on
  3. Ask the AI questions or request specific content
  4. Select paragraphs with @ references for targeted feedback
  5. Build your document piece by piece through conversation

Pro Tips

  • Use Shift+Click to select a range of paragraphs for context
  • Reference specific paragraphs using the @ syntax
  • Don't be afraid to push back — ask for alternatives
  • Chat history persists, so you can return to previous ideas

Choice Mode

What It Does

Choice Mode generates multiple versions of each section. You pick the one that best fits your vision, creating a document through curation rather than editing.

Best For

  • Writers who know what they want but can't articulate it
  • Finding the right tone or angle
  • A/B testing different approaches to the same content
  • Creative exploration

How to Use It

  1. Start a new Choice Mode session
  2. Provide your initial prompt
  3. Review 2-3 generated options for each section
  4. Click to select your preferred version
  5. Continue to the next section

Pro Tips

  • You can mix and match — select option A's opening with option B's conclusion
  • Use the feedback mechanism to guide subsequent choices
  • Save choice patterns that work well as templates
  • This mode uses more credits than others (multiple generations per section)

Easy Mode

What It Does

Easy Mode provides the simplest writing interface. You write naturally, and AI assistance appears inline as you type — like a more intelligent autocomplete.

Best For

  • Writers who prefer minimal AI involvement
  • Quick notes and drafts
  • When you have a clear vision and just need occasional help
  • Beginners getting comfortable with AI writing

How to Use It

  1. Open Easy Mode
  2. Start typing
  3. Accept or dismiss AI suggestions as they appear
  4. Use the toolbar for occasional AI-powered edits

Pro Tips

  • Easy Mode has the lowest learning curve
  • It uses fewer credits per session
  • Perfect for editing and polishing existing content
  • Can be combined with other modes — draft in Auto, polish in Easy

Choosing the Right Mode

Here's a quick decision framework:

  • Need a complete draft fast? → Auto Mode
  • Want to explore and brainstorm? → Chat Mode
  • Can't decide on the right approach? → Choice Mode
  • Want minimal AI interference? → Easy Mode

Remember: you can always switch modes mid-project. Start in Chat Mode to brainstorm, switch to Auto to generate a draft, then polish in Easy Mode. There's no wrong combination.

What About Credits?

Different modes consume credits at different rates:

  • Easy Mode — Lowest credit usage
  • Auto Mode — Moderate (one generation per section)
  • Chat Mode — Moderate (depends on conversation length)
  • Choice Mode — Highest (multiple generations per section)

Plan your credit usage based on your subscription tier and project needs. For most users, a mix of modes across projects optimizes credit consumption.
